Objectives

  • Discuss the history and scope of the current Opioid Epidemic in the United States.
  • Identify and describe the three initiatives addressing the opioid epidemic: -Updated opioid prescribing guidelines from the CDC. -Expanded access to the medication-assisted treatment. -Expanded access to naloxone for first responders and laypersons.Review the protocol for the prescribing and dispensing.
  • Review the protocol for the prescribing and dispensing of naloxone.
  • Identify counseling points for individuals who request naloxone.
